Most people we know have their own style of khichdi and the family generally tends to latch on to the style. Panchratna Dal is a dal very popular in India. As the name suggests, it is made by combining five kinds of dal common to Indian households. It is also known as Panchmel dal.

Steps to make Panchratna dal khichri:
  1. Sort and wash dal and rice carefully. Mix all dal with rice.
  2. Now, take this mixture in a pressure cooker, add 3 cups of water, chopped tomatoes, salt and turmeric powder. Pressure cook for 2-3 whistles on medium heat. Open the lid when pressure is released. If required, add little more water.
  3. Furthermore, heat a pan with ghee. Add cumin seeds, let it crackle, then add aesfoetida and green chilli. And add this tadka in the cooked khichri. Mix well and simmer boil for 2 minutes.
  4. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot in combination with chokha, curd, pickle and papad.
