  1. Get 1 cup rice (surti kolam)
  2. Prepare 1/2 cup Yellow mung dal

  8. Prepare 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder

Moong Dal Khichdi is a complete meal in itself. For those unaware, khichdi is a complete meal made with rice and lentils which are pressure cooked together and in India it's synonyms with illness. I am sharing a unique khichdi called Hyderabadi khichdi. The basic khichdi is a simple mix of rice and moong dal cooked with a ghee seasoning of cumin, ginger, green chilies, and turmeric powder.

Instructions to make Khichdi:
  1. Wash rice and dal and soak for 15 minutes.
  2. Take one medium sized vessel with thick bottom keep on flame add desi ghee, cumin seeds roast few seconds now add chopped onion saute add black pepper, cloves and cinnamon fry till onion becomes translucent. Now pour water add turmeric powder and salt let the water boil. When water comes to the boil add rice and dal mixture cook till rice dal gets tender. Khichdi is ready to serve. Serve with any sabji or kadhi.. we can serve khichdi with roasted papad, achar also.
