- Preparing kanji: Wash the rice and pressure cook it for 12 to 13 whistles in pressure cooker.
- Preparing payar thoran: Pressure cook the mung been for 6 whistles.
- Heat coconut oil in a pan/cheenachatti. Add mustard seeds, urad dal.
- When mustard seeds splutter, add curry leaves, green chilli and small onion. Fry till onion is transparent.
- Add Cooked green gram, turmeric powder and salt. Mix well.
- Add grated coconut and cook for 2-3 mins. Switch off the flame.
- Serving Kanji: In a bowl/plate take kanji. Add some ghee and salt into the kanji. Enjoy this kanji with papad/pappadam, green gram/payar thoran and thengachammathi/coconut chutney.
